About College
Yashwantrao Chavan Arts and Commerce College is situated at Urun-Islampur in the Walwa Taluka of the Sangli district in Southern Maharashtra. It was founded in June, 1970 by Late Shri. S. D. Patil (Ex. Member of Parliament), an educationalist and social reformer in pursuit of “Bahujan Hitay, Bahujan Sukhay” (for the good of many, for the prosperity of many). The college has been rendering valuable service in the field of education, sports, NSS and cultural activities since its establishment. The college was recognized under 2f by UGC in April, 1976, and permanently affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur in June, 2005. It provides education in Arts and Commerce faculties at junior level and Arts, Commerce, Computer Science and Business Administration at graduate level. It also runs self financing course in Journalism.
The success rate all these courses is comparatively high and noteworthy. The campus area of the college is 7 acres housing a few other activities of the Parent Institute along with its offices. The college has a very big playground, a gymkhana with 12 multi gyms, library with reading room facility, canteen, hostel, vehicle parking shed, a computer lab, ladies common room and the guidance and counselling cell. The sports wing has been very good in Hockey and Soft ball. The college players have also been part of the university team at the national level. The N. S. S. unit of the college inculcate the civic responsibilities among the students by conducting various community development programmes.
About Management
Walwa Taluka Education Society was founded in 1945 by Late Shri. S. D. Patil and his co-workers for educational uplift and welfare of the society. Late Shri. S. D. Patil was very active in the social and political activities in the Southern Maharashtra. He was elected as a M.L.A., M.P. and President of Zillah Parishad from Sangli district.
He was interested in spreading education to the door of the masses. He believed that education can improve the life of the common and backward classes in rural Maharashtra. So he founded ‘Walwa Taluka Education Society’ in 1945 and started different institutions. Today, the management runs 25 institutions under able guidance of Adv. B. S. Patil (Anna), Honorary Secretary and Adv. Dhairyasheel Patil (Baba), Joint Secretary of ‘Walwa Taluka Education Society’

S. S. for cultivation of values like national integration, patriotism, humanism, socialism, secularism and peace. |
